The Tenuta Podernovo – the wine estate - speaks of a love for this land, strong enough to drive the Lunelli family, who have run the Ferrari wineries for three generations, to direct their passion and conviction to the creation of elegant, intense red wines.

The Tenuta Podernovo winery complements the unique experience of a holiday in Tuscany, where the views, tastes and fragrances work together to offer guests a dream holiday that engages all the senses.

Holidaying in Tuscany and savouring the Italian lifestyle also means getting to know its wine culture and tasting some of Tuscany’s finest wines, Teuto, Aliotto and Auritea, which are produced on the estate.

Three great Tuscan wines, the fruit of a family’s passion and traditions

Separated from the farmhouse by a garden, the Tenuta Podernovo winery has a symbiotic relationship with the land, reflected in its exposed stone walls.

Here, in a fascinating setting, the Lunelli family watch over as the structure and character of two great Tuscan wines, Teuto, Aliotto and Auritea, mature in highest quality barrels for the delight of lovers of fine wines.

Accompanied by an expert guide, our visitators listen to a fascinating story from grape to wine and end their visit with a tasting experience.

Auritea

COSTA TOSCANA I.G.T.

Grapes
Cabernet Franc 100%.

Production area
Auritea comes from the Olmo vineyard, situated on the eastern side of the Podernovo hill.

Type of soil
Medium-textured soil, silty, with a highish clay content and rich in fossil shells of marine origin.

Training system
Cordon Spur, 5680 vines per hectare.

Yield
38 hl per ha.

Fermentation temperature
Cold maceration prior to fermentation at 12°C for 42 hours. Maximum vinification temperature of 26°C - 28°C, in stainless steel.

Lenght of maceration
20 - 25 days with light irrigation of the cap, so as to slowly extract only the gentler part of the tannins.

Maturation
18 months in French oak barriques.

Bottle ageing
At least 12 months in bottle.

First year of production
2015

Teuto

COSTA TOSCANA I.G.T.

Grapes
65% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Production zone
Teuto is produced from the estate’s best grapes, specially selected in its vineyards in the hills near Pisa according to the Animavitis precision farming programme.

Type of soils
The vineyards lie on clay loam soils of medium texture that contain lots of fossilized shells, with west-, east- and south-facing exposures, at an altitude of 137 metres above sea level.

Vine training system
Cordon Spur, 5680 vines per hectare.

Yield
45 hl of wine per hectare.

Fermentation temperature
Cold pre-maceration at 12°C (54°F) for 36 hours. Maximum fermentation temperature of 26°- 28°C (79°-82°F), in wood and stainless steel.

Length of maceration
15 - 20 days.

Maturation
18 months, in tonneaux and large casks for the Sangiovese, and barriques for the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bottle-ageing
At least 6 months.

First year of production

Aliotto

TOSCANA I.G.T. ROSSO

Grapes
60% Sangiovese, 40% Cabernet, Merlot and other local grapes.

Production area
Aliotto comes from a strict selection of grapes from the vineyards of the Estate.

Type of soil
The vineyards are located on soils that are medium-textured, composed of loamy sand and clay, and rich in fossil shells. They face west, south and east, at an altitude of 137 meters above sea level.

Training system
Cordon Spur, 5680 vines per hectare.

Yield
60 hectolitres of wine per hectare.

Fermentation temperature
28°C in stainless steel vats.

Maceration period
10-15 days.

Ageing
12 months in barriques, followed by a minimum of 4 months in bottle.
